Ideal Use Cases
Kitchen Cabinets
Membrane is popular for kitchen shutters, especially in classical and shaker-style designs where the seamless wrap-around finish is most visible.
Wardrobe Shutters
The smooth, uniform finish of membrane makes it ideal for wardrobe doors. Available in colours that complement any bedroom decor.
Bathroom Vanities
When sealed properly, membrane finishes work well for bathroom vanity units. The seamless edges prevent moisture ingress.
Profile Doors
Membrane is the go-to finish for profile (routed) shutter designs. The PVC film wraps around grooves and profiles seamlessly.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is membrane finish?
Membrane finish involves pressing a thin PVC (polyvinyl chloride) film onto an MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) surface using heat and vacuum pressure. The result is a seamless, edge-free finish where the film wraps around the edges of the board, eliminating visible joints.
Is membrane finish good for kitchens?
Membrane is widely used in kitchens, particularly for shutter designs with profiles and grooves. However, it is important to keep membrane surfaces away from direct heat sources (like gas stoves placed very close to shutters) as excessive heat can cause the PVC film to peel.
How does membrane compare to laminate?
Membrane offers a seamless, edge-free look that laminates cannot achieve. However, laminates (especially HPL) are more heat and scratch-resistant. Membrane is better for decorative shutters with profiles, while laminates are better for flat surfaces and high-wear areas.
How long does membrane finish last?
With proper care, membrane finishes can last 8-12 years. Avoid placing them near direct heat sources and keep them dry. All Paush Designs membrane products are covered under our flat 10-year warranty.
